One of the perks of being a photographer is the traveling opportunities. To be able to explore on different countries while capturing some of the best sights, it is really a rewarding profession if you ask me. Not long ago, I got to discover yet another perk of being a wedding photographer. It is being able to document your best friends’ love journey, in all its glorifying details.
This couple, Maggie and Hermanto aka Atok, are my best buddies. We have known each other for quite some time, and I was even a part of their wedding proposal. When they decided to tie the knot after being together for 9 years, I felt genuinely happy for them. As their selected photographer though, it was a bit of an odd experience for me. Imagine going on a super fun trip with your best friends but also be in duty at the same time!
And just like my prediction, our trip to Japan during the Sakura season was proven to be more like a vacation, rather than a shooting session. But in a way, the relaxed and cheerful spirit worked effectively to bring out the best in them as a couple. We got to enjoy the cities in full Spring bloom, and I personally got to witness my two besties celebrate love in their own memorable way.
Speaking of memorable, we had a little incident during our trip from Kawaguchiko to Kanazawa. Maggie had somehow misplaced her engagement ring, which caused an instant panic and frantic searching everywhere. Maggie then bawled her eyes out during the whole trip, meanwhile Atok kept reassuring and cheered her up. It was not until we reached our destination that we rechecked the whole thing to find that the ring was stuck between the dresses inside the suitcase.
Maggie was so relieved that she burst into more tears and hugged Atok tight. I didn’t have my camera right there and then to capture the sweet moment, but I did have here a collection of their best prewedding moments- all seen through my lense, both as a photographer and a lucky friend.
As I looked back, I simply have to thank Atok and Maggie again for the honor. I cannot wait to witness as your little family grows, with or without camera, up close and personal again.
