A lot of people think that the big part of a photographerâs job is the technical work. You know, finding angles or compositions, adjusting lighting and focus, taming distractions and all that jazz. Well, technically thatâs all accurate- but a photographerâs job definitely extends beyond just that.
Personally, a photo session is considered well done when all elements come together in perfect harmony. That includes the technical and emotional aspects of things. A coupleâs chemistry can make or break a prewedding shoot, and a lot goes into factor when it comes to their dynamics.
One would expect that couples tend to act lovingly to one another, making a prewedding shoot easiest one of all. Afterall, there are just two models to manage. But here comes the curveballs, couples get nervous too! Itâs not as much about their feelings for one another, but rather the discomfort of having to act naturally in love in front of a stranger photographer aka me.
That leaves it to us, as professionals, to break down the walls and melt the ice. We have to work the mood, making sure that they are at ease. Maybe we open up with light conversation, humor them a bit, and find connections between the couple and us as the photographers. So these are all the things that are a part of our job description that we gladly take in because that’s a really big part of the fun.
Lucky for me, Hendrik and Yulia had absolutely zero problems when it comes to showing affection for one another in front of the camera. They are really one of the few couples who did it so effortlessly that I found directing and working with them as super easy and enjoyable.
As much as I wanted to credit myself for their photoshoot, the real MVPs were definitely Hendrik with his playful attitude and Yulia who is motherly and extra caring. Browse their gallery and youâll agree, the amount of chemistry is through the roof and any camera would have captured it at any minute. Thanks again to Hendrik and Yulia for giving me the honor to eternalize it, it was truly splendid.
